The Council’s newest initiative to support cancer research
Thanks to the ingenuity of our incredible SA Cancer Council board members and unending generosity of our Circles of Hope members, research and drug pilot studies over the past three years have made tremendous strides. And, they’re changing the face of cancer.
Last month we were fortunate enough to hear from six groundbreaking scientists, doctors, and researchers regarding their progress with studies funded through the first three Circles of Hope. Drs. Arora, Brenner, Dahia, Lathrop, Liss, and Rao were all informative and incredibly thankful for the opportunities afforded them to take their studies forward. We were also fortunate to meet with Dr. Mesa who introduced three new pilot projects to Circle #3. Dr. Arora’s project was selected.
At present, Circles #4 & 5 have been formed and will be meeting with Dr. Mesa on Oct. 8 to hear his proposals for their pilot selections. Each Circle member will vote on which project they deem most appropriate and the project will move forward. Semi-annual updates on the progress of the pilots will be provided from the doctors, ensuring that each Circle member is kept up to date.
It’s been an incredible journey but we’re not there yet. Thanks to Dr. Mesa and his commitment to match all funds provided by each Circle, we will have the potential to make great strides in battling this horrid disease called cancer. Everyone is asked to please look inside your hearts and see if this is something that might work for you. We are looking to form Circles #6 & 7 immediately. If you are interested, please contact Beverly Koehn (Circles of Hope Chair) at (210) 241-3445 or email@example.com or Sheri Ortiz (Senior Director of Major Gifts, Institutional Advancement, UT Health San Antonio) at (210) 450-5512 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Together we can change the face of cancer.
