We are pleased to announce that Sheri Ortiz, Senior Director of Major Gifts at UT Health San Antonio, is our new SA Cancer Council Liaison. Sheri, who has worked at the Mays Cancer Center for 16 years, will work closely with the Council providing support and guidance. “It is an honor and a privilege to be working with such an outstanding group of community leaders who are dedicated to supporting the Mays Cancer Center by providing vital funds for patient assistance and cutting-edge cancer research,” she explained.
Sheri, who focuses her fundraising efforts on raising major philanthropic support for the Mays Cancer Center and UT Health San Antonio, was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, grew up in Rockport and attended high school in New Orleans. She spent her first two years of college at SMU before transferring to The University of Texas at Austin where she received her degree in Business and became a “Longhorn for Life.”
Sheri moved into the non-profit world of fundraising when she began working for the Mays Cancer Center because “she wanted to make a difference in the fight against cancer.” Sheri explains that her passion and devotion to the cause came from her personal experience in college when she walked the cancer journey hand in hand with someone very close to her who lost the battle at the age of 20 years old. The compassionate patient care and the significant advances in cancer research underway at the Mays Cancer Center provide real hope for our patients and their families. Having the opportunity to play a very small part in that mission is incredibly rewarding.”
