That is the philosophy of one of San Antonio’s treasured businesses and philanthropic icons: the Original Rudy’s Country Store and Bar-B-Q who launched their “Cup for a Cure” campaign again this past February. The folks at Rudy’s are committed to creating awareness of breast cancer in our community and to raise funds for breast cancer research at the Mays Cancer Center, home to UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center. Rudy’s donated $.50 for every Pink Cup sold. For their donation, restaurant patrons received not only a cup, but also a $10 voucher towards their next purchase. Three weeks into the fundraising campaign all the pink cups had been sold due to the hard work and dedication of the team of Rudy’s employees, BUT that didn’t halt the fundraising. At this point, restaurant guests were still issued a $10 voucher for their donation during the final week of the campaign.
Dr. Virginia Kaklamani, leader of the Breast Oncology Program at the Mays Cancer Center, shared, “We cannot fully express our deep appreciation to the SA Cancer Council and Rudy’s BBQ for your continued support of our breast cancer program at the Mays Cancer Center. Since 2015, we have utilized your generous donations raised from the Rudy’s Pink Cup fundraiser to help build our world-class breast cancer program. We are currently conducting several clinical trials that are helping treat and prevent breast cancer based on recent basic research performed at UT Health San Antonio. This year’s funding in the amount of $51,622 will be awarded to a basic scientist whose research will lead to an innovative clinical trial in breast cancer. We thank you again for your invaluable support.”
We look forward to our next Rudy’s Pink Cup Campaign to raise money and awareness one cup at a time!
